Location, training and certification: the best in Rome for teachers
Every year International House prepares more candidates worldwide than any other organisation for Cambridge English Language Assessment Certificate (CELTA) and Diploma (DELTA) in English Language Teaching to Adults and the Young Learner Extension Certificate (YL Extension).
International House helped to create the modern standards for teacher training in language education, and continues to innovate in preparing and developing teachers of all languages. International House developed the first training courses for teachers of English and has continued to innovate both in pre‐service training and teacher development. Globally, the language teachers that we train are acknowledged as amongst the most able, creative and authoritative within their profession. Our teacher training programmes are a hallmark of excellence and outstanding professionalism.
IH Teacher Training Centres have a special commitment to working with teachers whose first language is not English, creating career opportunities for teachers from different backgrounds and working to improve the quality of language teaching provision in the state system.
The Teacher Training Department at International House – Accademia Britannica in Rome started more than thirty five years ago to cater mainly to the needs of the local International House schools. It expanded, however, to become the largest in Italy, in response to the growing demand for training courses in both public schools and private institutions. In 1997 the Department was one of the first in the world authorised by Cambridge Assessment English to pilot their new Extension Course for Teachers of Young Learners. Over the years we have prepared more than three thousand candidates from all over the world for careers both in Italy and abroad.
Location and Facilities
International House – Accademia Britannica is centrally located and close to the Colosseum, San Giovanni in Laterano and the main railway station (Stazione Termini). Course participants have access to our fully equipped Study Centre and its extensive library of materials for lesson planning and reference. Trainees are also provided with their own room that includes photocopying and IT facilities, and wi-fi is available in the whole premises.
