IH CYLT - Certificate in Teaching Young Learners & Teenagers
The IH Certificate in Teaching Young Learners & Teenagers is an in-service qualification for people with teaching experience and opens up a whole world of exciting teaching opportunities. Because it is awarded by International House and moderated by Cambridge English Language Assessment, part of the world-famous University of Cambridge, you can rely on its quality and recognition.
A great opportunity for your professional development since the Cambridge English YL Extension to CELTA is no longer available, this course enables you to develop the skills and knowledge from your initial training in ELT to adults and transfer them to the young learner and teenager teaching environment. At International House - Accademia Britannica in Rome we focus on the age range 8-18.
Successful candidates are issued with an endorsement certificate confirming the additional award of the IH CYLT.

The course includes teaching practice with groups of children aged eight to thirteen, assisted lesson planning and feedback on teaching practice. The following topics are included in the seminars:
- Language awareness
- The learner, the teacher and the teaching/learning context
- Planning for effective teaching of Young Learners of English
- Classroom management and teaching skills for teaching English to Young Learners
- Resources and materials for teaching English to Young Learners
- Professional development for teachers of English to Young Learners
Course participants must:
- be at a C1/C2 level of English
- be at least 20 years old
- have had some initial training in ELT - suggested minimum: CELTA or equivalent
- display an interest in the teaching of Young Learners
All applicants should provide the names of three referees, including their most recent employer. At least two of these will be contacted by the centre, via letter, phone and specifically asked to comment on the applicant’s suitability to work with young learners, stating whether they know of any impediment to their being employed in this context.
Applicants are accepted on the completion of a successful interview. Telephone interviews can be organised for candidates living outside Italy.
